Barbara, you’ve been with us for how many consecutive semesters?
Actually, I have attended Wife for Life University four times now! I know that sounds crazy! But it truly is a delight! I am still learning so much!
That doesn’t sound crazy! It sounds smart. What have you gained?
Listen. My marriage before Wife for Life U was barely surviving. It literally saved my marriage. My confidence and feelings of self-worth are increasing, and I have learned that change is possible. I have changed!
How long was it before you felt those changes?
We took a complete 180 after my FIRST semester. It was amazing! May I say that my husband loves you, Ramona! When I fall into old habits, he’s the one that suggests I do Wife for Life University again!
Hahaha. That’s wonderful. I love to ask our students how they found us. What’s your story?
I came across Wife for Life because of my sister. She had been to one of your live presentations and decided to buy your book. She knew I was struggling in my marriage so she gave me the book for Christmas. I felt such despair but when I read your book, I found hope. I thought, “I can do this!”
HOPE is always where miracles start. How did you make the jump from hope to real change?
Your book recommended mentoring so I took a chance and called because I knew reading the book wasn’t enough for me. I was shocked to learn that the mentoring actually came from you, the author! You invited me to join Wife for Life University, but the truth is, I hesitated.
You hesitated to join? Why?
I didn’t have much money, or time, and had four little kids. And honestly, I also struggled with feelings like “Ramona is only in it for the money” and “she doesn’t really care about me or my marriage.” I still didn’t believe in myself and was very self-conscious. I worried about people thinking I was immature or stupid. I was also afraid to trust you with the details of my personal life. I asked my husband if it would be okay, and he was also completely skeptical.
I know it’s hard to reach out for and accept help; especially from someone you don’t know personally. I’m so impressed that you overcame those reservations!
Well, when I considered the whole thing, I realized that it was worth a try and the price was right. (You even gave me a discount.) Also, I never had to leave my house or get a babysitter. That part worked perfectly for me.
So you took a chance on Wife for Life University, basically.
Yes, and what I found there was the complete opposite of all my fears.
How so?
I found sincere support, understanding, and love. And I soon learned that you weren’t in it for the money. You are so generous of your time and talents. You truly care about helping women succeed in marriage, Ramona. And your concern for my marriage and me was authentic! Best of all, I know you are completely trustworthy and that you are RIGHT. It works!
I so appreciate that. What “worked” for you, specifically?
Wife for Life University helped me to actually apply Wife for Life principles. Also listening to the other women helped me to see things in my own life. I knew I didn’t understand men, but I was surprised to learn that I didn’t understand myself either. I learned I wasn’t abnormal or unique in my struggles. I found a safe place to learn and grow and share.
That’s exactly our aim. Thank you for being so candid. We love you, Barbara, and can’t wait to start our next semester with you!
